He’s typically portrayed as one of the deadliest and most expensive assassins in the DC Universe. He’s also a well-known foe of certain heroes like Green Arrow, Batman, and Dick Grayson (as Robin and later Nightwing). Additionally, Grant Wilson and Rose Wilson, two forms of the Ravager, and Respawn are all children of Deathstroke.
Deathstroke, a master assassin, frequently has disagreements with both other superheroes and his own family, with whom he finds it difficult to establish a connection.
The persona was named by Wizard magazine as the 24th Greatest Villain of All Time and by IGN as the 32nd Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.
He has been heavily adapted into a variety of media, including multiple Batman-related projects and the Ron Perlman-voiced Teen Titans animated series.
Esai Morales played Deathstroke in the second season of the DC Universe series Titans. Manu Bennett played him in the Arrowverse television series on The CW. Joe Manganiello played him in the DC Extended Universe, and he made a brief appearance in the 2017 film Justice League.
Who Is Slade?
One of the two main villains in Teen Titans, along with Trigon, is Slade Joseph Wilson, also known as Deathstroke the Terminator. He’s Robin’s archenemy and wants to destroy the Titans and him for reasons that are unknown to him.
Due to censorship concerns, Slade makes an appearance in the Teen Titans animated series but is just given the name Slade. He serves as both the Titans’ principal foe and the first two seasons’ primary nemesis.
His main objectives are to vanquish the Titans, level Jump City, and perhaps even take over the entire planet. He had two underground bases that were both obliterated.
He also had a vast army of robotic commandos and superhuman physical strength—enough, for example, to pierce solid steel with a single blow.
Physical Appearance of Slade
The most distinctive aspect of Slade is his mask. Due to the loss of his right eye, the right side is full black with no eyehole, while the left side is orange with one black-outlined eyehole.
Additionally, where his mouth would be, there are four parallel holes, two on each side. His entire body is covered with what appears to be a black body suit, except his grey forearms and lower torso.
He wears black gauntlets, grey gloves, and a grey utility belt on his arms. His body is covered in overlapping armor in some places.
The first is a grey neck guard that covers his throat and chest, followed by guards on each of his thighs, knees, tops, and bottoms of his feet, both shoulders, forearms, and shoulders over each of his gauntlets. Finally, a grey sash wraps horizontally around his torso.
He is Caucasian, as evidenced by a tiger Beast Boy ripping off some of his clothing during a battle with the Titans, exposing his flesh.
Additionally, based on the silhouette of his head (see image to the left), he appears to have either dirty blond or grey hair, but since we only see him in shadow, it is impossible to tell what color his actual hair is.
Personality of Slade
Slade is a very collected and cool person who, throughout the series, has remained a mystery to both allies and adversaries.
Because of this, very little is known about his genuine nature, despite the comparisons that have been drawn on numerous occasions between him and Robin about features like their extreme disdain for failure, ferocious dedication, and borderline obsessive pursuit of their objectives.
It is indicated a few times, even though most people are unaware of Slade’s malevolent intentions. Slade claims it is in Birthmark, “Apprentice – Part 2” contains a quote from him that reads, “Betrayal. Revenge. Destruction.”
All of these may refer to his son Jericho, who is mute, and the incident that caused his muteness (and Slade’s loss of his right eye due to his former wife) was because Slade allegedly betrayed his family.
This resulted in the minor destruction of his home (but major destruction to him and his son), which led to Slade wanting to exact revenge on unknown people to atone for his son’s loss of speech.
Slade’s Nature
Slade is the definition of an evil mastermind. He’s cunning and calculating, never appears unless he has the upper hand, and runs away as soon as that advantage is threatened.
He’s an expert manipulator who prefers to lure people into traps rather than engage in direct combat. He makes full use of his robotic minions, who are frequently seen engaging in combat in his place.
For reasons not entirely obvious, he’s shown tirelessly seeking to find new apprentices during the first two seasons, focusing on Terra and Robin, respectively.
He takes advantage of their vulnerabilities and concerns using his brilliance and charisma, and he is not above using blackmail to force them into submission, as he did with Robin in “Apprentice – Part 2”.
Slade’s nasty and vicious demeanor makes him frightening. He’s doomed by his extreme obstinacy and determination to do what is in front of him. He comes off as even more cold-blooded and emotionless due to his stone-like demeanor.
Slade confesses to having no regret for any of his crimes during a chat with Robin in “The End – Part 2,” responding, “It’s what I do best,” after Robin informs him that everything he has ever done has only caused suffering in others.
He occasionally loses his cool. An instance of this is when Trigon deceived him, despite his loyalty to the demon, and had his fire-minions take him, causing him to demand with wrath that the demons obey him.
Despite having a malicious personality, he acknowledged that he did not want Trigon to destroy the Earth, assisted the Titans in defeating him, and even allowed Terra to start over. He also told Beast Boy to let the past go, demonstrating that he is not always without honor.
Aside from the fact that this Slade was actually a robot copy, thus perhaps it doesn’t reflect the nature of the real Slade, who probably would have utilized Beast Boy for his own purposes, one could easily argue that he was also trying to taunt Beast Boy.
