Anime is the most interesting to watch. However, some of the animes contain material that might be difficult to follow. Thus, let’s talk about them and understand them deeply.
Eldians and the Subjects of Ymir are the subjects of discussion today, and let me tell you, it will be incredibly interesting.
The Subjects of Ymir are an ethnic group descended from Ymir Fritz (she was the first person to obtain the power of the Titans). It’s considered the only race that was ever capable of becoming Titans. It started with Ymir and her three daughters. However, with time, the bloodline expanded across the Eldian people, so much so that it became the majority. In 854, they inhabited the Walls of Paradis Island and the internment zones found in Marley and some regions of the world.
Eldia is a nation which is located on Paradis Island and is majorly populated by the Subjects of Ymir. In ancient times, Eldians were ruthless to the Titans. They used them to build their empire, slaughtered innumerable people, and took their lands. However, the Eldian Empire became unstable because of some conflicts between the families who had the power of the Titans. Due to such matters, the Empire collapsed during the Great Titan War and lost several major lands and seven of the Nine Titans to Marley. Later, King Karl Fritz built the Walls to protect Eldia from Marley and other nations of the world and erased all the memories of Eldia from the Subjects of Ymir.
The main difference between them is that the “Subjects of Ymir” is a race while “Eldian” is an ethnicity or nationality. Furthermore, Subjects of Ymir are the people who are the descendants of Ymir Fritz (she was married forcibly to King Fritz), and she is the first Founding Titan, whereas Eldians are the people who inhabit the nation of Eldia.
Here are some differences between Eldian/Eldia and the Subjects of Ymir.

Who are the Subjects of Ymir?
The Subjects of Ymir are an ethnic community that descended from Ymir Fritz. They are the only race that was able to become Titans; some of them were even capable of inheriting the Nine Titans. The reason there are a lot of Subjects of the Ymir population is because the Eldian Empire used to force other races to marry Subjects of Ymir and have their children.
Ymir Fritz was the first being to ever acquire the power of the Titan about 1,800 years ago. When Ymir died, her three daughters named, Maria, Rose, and Sina Fritz devoured their mother’s corpse and gained her abilities including being able to turn into a Titan.
Upon their father’s orders, the three daughters reproduced in order to expand the bloodline and continue a race who can turn into Titans. With the power of Nine Titans, the Subjects of Ymir ruled the old Marley and were able to establish the Eldian Empire.
Almost 600 years ago, an epidemic arose, which killed many, but the king utilized the divine power of the Founding Titan to rewrite how the bodies of Subjects of Ymir were built to be able to overcome and survive this dreadful pandemic.

Is every Eldian related to Ymir?
Eldian is the nationality of the people who inhabited Eldia, and Eldia was established by the Subjects of Ymir. All Eldians are considered the descendants of Ymir, this is the reason all the Eldians can turn into Titan and memories can be altered by the Founding Titan.
The Subjects of Ymir majorly populate Eldia, because Eldian Empire forced all the other races to have children with the Subjects of Ymir, and if any Subject of Ymir reproduces with any other race, the offspring will be considered a Subject of Ymir.
Examples can include, Reiner Braun, who is the illegitimate son of a mother who is an Eldian and a father who is a Marleyan.
Are the Ackermans Eldians?
The Ackermans, also known as the Ackerman family, is an Eldian family who lives within the Walls.
Traditionally, Ackermans were the bloodline of warriors who were the protectors of Eldia’s King. However, they were persecuted to the point of extinction as they refused to follow the ideology of Karl Fritz. Thus, in the end, only two members were left.
Before, the Ackermans lived in Eldia, but after the fall of the Eldian Empire in the course of the Great Titan War, they moved into the Walls that were built by King Fritz for the Eldians. In addition, the Ackermans were an accidental result of a science experiment done by the Eldian Empire with the Subjects of Ymir and the Titans.
Furthermore, when the King erased the memories of the people who were living inside the Walls by using the great power of the Founding Titan, the Ackerman family was among the people who were immune to it. As the Ackermans refused to follow the ideology of the King, they were in great danger of being extinct, and they almost did, however, the head of the Ackerman clan sacrificed himself in order to protect the bloodline. The rest of the Ackerman generation never told their children about the life that they lived outside of the Walls to save them from the cruel monarchy’s purge.
As the Ackermans were the consequence of an experiment that the Eldian Empire did, and as the Ackerman family from the beginning lived in Eldia, evidently, they all are Eldians.
Is Mikasa Eldian or Marley?
Mikasa is the daughter of an Asian mother and an Ackerman father. Ackermans and Asians have lived in Eldia from the beginning. Thus, Mikasa Ackerman is an Eldian.
After the fall of the Eldian Empire during the Great Titan War, the Ackermans lived within the Walls, thus it was very likely that there would be an Asian Ackerman bloodline. If the father of Mikasa was Asian and her mother an Ackerman, Mikasa still would have been an Eldian as both of the families lived in Eldia.
Is every Eldian of royal blood?
Royal blood are the people who are the descendants of King Fritz, and all Subjects of Ymir are the descendants of Ymir. Thus, they are clearly royal blood. However, not all Eldians are of royal blood because there are many other races other than the Subjects of Ymir. This means all the Subjects of Ymir are of royal blood, but not all Eldians are.
It’s a fact, that all the Subjects of Ymir were descended from the original Titan, who is, of course, Ymir, however, the true royal bloods are those who directly descended from the Titan, Ymir.
What is the difference between Eldian and Marley?
The difference between Eldian and Marley is that Eldian is the nationality of the people who live in Eldia, while Marley is a nation. Eldia, at one point, ruled Marley, but Marley was never even liberated let alone rule Eldia. Eldia was powerful and became invincible after acquiring the Titans’ power.
Marley is a nation that is located beyond the Walls and far across the sea from Paradis Island. In ancient times, Marley was the nation that was ruled by Eldia, however, during the Great Titan War, the people of Marley rose up and defeated the territory of Eldia, except for Paradis Island.
Marley was quite powerful, but 2,000 years ago, an Eldian slave, Ymir Fritz, acquired the power of the Titans and as she was forcibly married to King Fritz, he used her abilities to bring down Marley.
One of the Marleyans attempted to assassinate Fritz several years after their defeat, but Ymir intervened and was killed instead. As her power was divided and passed down to her descendants in the form of Nine Titans, they used it to establish the Eldian Empire and also waged war against many nations including Marley. This brought utter destruction to the nations, resulting in the Eldians taking over the continental mainland. This era is said to be the beginning of the Dark Ages.
