You often use words like ‘I am loving it’ or ‘I love it’ to express love for an act or object, and may believe that these two words are the same.

The word ‘loving it’ uses progressive tense, used to express something you love for a particular time of speaking. On the other hand, ‘love it’ describes something you love continuously, regardless of the time period.

The word ‘I am loving it’ means that you enjoy or are in love with something during a particular time span while you are experiencing that specific thing.

The stative verb love is used in the continuous tense. Stative verbs are mostly used in the present form and are rarely used in continuous form.

 Its general pronunciation sounds great with nonliving things. A simple example of that is:

“Do you like the juice? I am loving it.”

This explains that the one who’s talking is having great experience drinking juice at that specific moment. But his good experience is not long enough and that last after a period of time.

Defining ‘I Love It’ and what you’re trying to mean

The word ‘I love it means to love or enjoy something in a state which is continuous.

We normally use it to express something we love or enjoy regardless of any time being. Unlike the word ‘loving it’, it is grammatically correct. It is also a stative verb but is in present form. It also sounds good when used for nonliving things. Its synonymous include:

  • liking
  • penchant
  • affection
  • propensity
  • proclivity

Is ‘I am loving it’ grammatically correct?

Although the word ‘loving it’ does not sound odd but looking from the grammatical point of view, love is a stative verb used in the continuous tense.

Stative verbs are used to describe a state such as like, want, etc . Stative verbs are not usually used in present continuous form for example: liking, wanting.

The word ‘I am loving it is grammatically incorrect but the stative verb can be:

  • used to describe someone’s action
  • used to describe someone’s experience that would last after a time period.

As Macdonald did in its advertisements, their ads were pretty successful and most people did not even notice the grammar error. It gives an idea that stative verbs as well grammar is changing, Young people mostly use stative verbs in continuous form as it sounds more energetic.

For example─ if you want to describe how delicious the food is, using the word ‘loving it’ can imply that you’re having a great experience eating the dish at that moment or a specific time.

But that is only used to describe for a specific time frame only.

The same goes with other non-living things whether it be anything either a concert, show drink, etc.

When to use ‘I Love It’

The word ‘I love it’ uses present tense and it must be used for something you love in the present state.

Can be used to express your love for anything within the state of continuity.

Your love for that thing must not be for some time a particular time period but it must be eternal. Its appropriate usage is with non-living things except for animals who have no name or its gender is unknown.

For example, your friend gives you a gift and asks you “How is the gift? Do you like it?” Your reply is: I love it.

Are the words ‘Love it’ and ‘Like it’ the same?

‘Like it’ and ‘love it’ are two different words with a slight difference in their meanings.

Liking something means that you have a feeling of satisfaction or happiness for that thing. Whereas, loving something means that you have a deep, strong feeling of affection for that particular thing. When you are in love with anything, you have an in-depth, feeling for a particular thing and it is very special to you.

In the state when you like something, the presence of that thing makes you feel good. Whereas, when you are in love with something, you are automatically desirous of the presence of that thing.

It may be any feelings or choices you express, it must be done with the right words. Words have the power to build or shatter relationships, commitments, and even your image. Usage of the right words at the right time plays a crucial role as others come to know through your words, what you are trying to convey.

You might not like a person who uses wrong words to express their choices.
